Our story
Forty-eight years at the loom
By Saymin Tekstil · · 7 min read
Our founder Sabri Karataş on how a single shuttle loom became a mill that exports to 35 countries.
In 1978, Sabri Karataş bought a second-hand shuttle loom with his savings and set it up in a small workshop in Istanbul. He wove herringbone for local tailors, six days a week.
“I didn’t want to be the biggest. I wanted to be the one people trusted.”
Almost five decades later, the mill runs more than 120 looms and the second generation leads daily operations — but Sabri still walks the weaving floor every morning, running his hand over the first roll of the day.
